Trucchi’s Turning Ninety

Trucchi’s 90th Anniversary t-shirts are already being worn by personnel and customers. The t-shirts are being shipped to friends and family as far away as California, France, and Francavilla Bisio, Italy. They boast Trucchi’s “Your Hometown Store” on the front and “90 YEARS” under the Trucchi’s heart logo appropriately printed on each sleeve. “2018 A Celebration of Family and Community” is about to kick off throughout the city of Taunton, where Trucchi’s was founded, as a thank you to loyal customers and dedicated personnel.

The celebration throughout the city of Taunton begins at the Trescott Street Gallery’s CITYSCAPES (opening night is Saturday, May 5th, 6:30-8:30 pm.) with a special Trucchi’s Time Capsule exhibit on display through May 26th.

Official cake-cutting ceremonies are planned for Sunday, May 6th. Cake, coffee and special guests will be on hand to commemorate Trucchi’s 90th anniversary in each store location, at 12:00 pm. Sunday, May 6th also kicks off Trucchi’s 90th anniversary sales specials.

On Thursday, May 10th, original memorabilia will be on view at the Old Colony History Museum, 66 Church Green. A slideshow of memories will also be shown from 6:00-7:00 pm

Trucchi’s started in 1928. William M. Trucchi Sr. borrowed $500 from his Italian immigrant parents, Elisa and Pedro Trucchi. Thanks to Elisa’s well-kept notes we know William opened his first store at the mere age of fifteen on July 1st. The original store was on Tremont Street in Taunton and was the size of a small house. William proudly named his store “Hometown Stores.” After 90 years Trucchi’s Supermarkets remains “Hometown Stores” at heart.

Today, James Trucchi, Elisa Trucchi’s grandson and William’s son, is president and CEO of the company. Trucchi’s employs 900 personnel; some are proud second-generation employees. There are many stories being told this year about how people met here and later married.

Jim Trucchi is often asked what makes Trucchi’s Supermarkets different and his answer is always the same: “Trucchi’s personnel are truly what sets Trucchi’s Supermarkets apart.”

Congratulations to this hometown supermarket for hitting the 90-year mark. Quite an accomplishment, especially in a very competitive market. William and Elisa would be quite proud. The values of hometown pride, quality, family, friends, neighbors, and independence are posted at the six Trucchi’s Supermarket locations. These ideals serve as a reminder of William’s own commitment and that of the entire Trucchi’s organization. Staying true to William’s vision, Trucchi’s offers a unique, small-town comfort and will continue to follow in its founder’s footsteps. Happy 90th!
